One Little Word

Have you seen this One Little Word campaign on social media? The blogosphere?
It’s everywhere!

I’ve been choosing, or rather allowing, a word to choose me for the last few years.
Be Present, Joy, Intentional are a few of the words I’ve spent a whole year focused on.
The idea behind OLW is to be fully engaged in the act of improving your life by living more intentionally through your word. Allowing it to seep into every facet of your life.
As a momma, I have found that I am a better mommy to my kids when I am intentional about life, when my focus is on making our day to day better by giving myself grace, freedom to make mistakes. Having one little word encourages that for me. Sometimes I feel a verse connected to my word and those are my favorite ones!

I’ve asked a few of the mommas here if they’d share their word with us and these are some of the amazing responses I received.

Stephanie’s OLW is Light.

“This year was the worst year of depression I’ve ever had. The world felt dark. The word light has been on my heart a lot trying to overcome the darkness. There’s a song by Sara Groves called “You are the Sun” and it talks about how we are like the moon, with no light of our own, but we are made to shine from the light of God. So this year, I hope to focus on the light constantly, and remember that I’m made in His image, and if He is light, then I am too.”

Renee’s OLW is Passion.

“I want to have passion or be passionate about everything I do. My relationship with Christ, my family, my marriage, and my kids. My time is limited between 2 young kids, working outside the home 40 hours a week, and my husband owning a small business so I need to stop wasting my time with things I am lukewarm about and focus on things I am passionate about.”

Stacie’s OLW is Action.

“I’m a HUGE procrastinator & if it weren’t for the last minute I wouldn’t get anything done. I desperately want to change that in 2015. I want to spend time doing things that matter & being a person of action in all parts of my life! It will make me a much better (and definitely more prepared) servant of the Lord, wife, mother, employee, daughter & friend. I hope to make the calendar my go-to companion this year and be a much better prepared Mama. Flying by the seat of my pants needs to stop! I’m hoping if I’m more prepared I’ll have more time to spend in the word & more time to make a difference in the world, instead of constantly being unprepared & feeling overwhelmed.”

Lisa’s OLW is Time.

“So many areas of my life are encompassed in this one word that the Lord is speaking to my heart: time spent wisely during the day, making time to spend with Him, enjoying the moment with my children as they grow so quickly, even seeking out time for myself to recharge and rejuvenate. Most of all, this word reminds me that the Lord’s timing is always perfect!”

Michelle’s OLW is Focus.

“This past year and half, I felt like I didn’t know if I was coming or going. I was trying to juggle a full time job, take advantage of all the services Madison qualified for, was in and out of court every 6 weeks or so, was going to Child & Family Team Meetings, therapy appointments, meeting with our Early Intervention team and going to specialist doctor appointments in Nashville. Now that Madison has graduated from all her therapy, I want to focus on us just being a new forever family. I need to focus on my job, getting my accounts in order. I need to focus on my health by eating healthier, taking the time to plan meals. I need to take the time to bring my home back in order, it seems so many things get in disarray when you are juggling so many appointments, opportunities that you know you have to grab while they are available to you. So in 2015, I will focus on US, making us better and a stronger family unit with many loose ends tied up and back in order!”

Among other friends I’ve heard such amazingly thoughtful words:
Believe, anticipate, wait, hope, sing, praise, trust.
Allowing these words to fill in the cracks and crevices of our lives brings deeper more focused living. Whether you are looking to be more intentional with your time, your children, at your job or with family, in relationship with friends, or God or yourself. No matter your OLW you will find yourself smiling as you realize it really has become a way of life. You begin to do things without thinking about your one little word. It just naturally begins to blossom in your daily life.

So I bet your wondering what my word for 2015 is going to be…well it’s a big one for me. I’m a bit of a type A personality. I like plans, lists and schedules. It helps me feel in control. But for several weeks now as I’ve been thinking back on this years word and what next year’s word will bring I keep being brought back to this word. It will not leave me. The implementing of this word into my life will be at times difficult I’m sure but I’m excited for how this is going to change me forever.

Galatians 5:1
5 It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.

There you have it. So what’s your one little word for 2015? We’d love to hear it.
