The Dropping Anchors Blog crew strives to encourage and empower other foster and adoptive parents. Our hearts break for the 415,000+ children living in the foster care system and want to do whatever we can to improve the lives of as many of those children as we can. By creating the foster care awareness videos (see our first one here) we hope to encourage other people to become foster parents or to volunteer their time to improve the lives of foster children.
If you want to learn more about how you can help support foster children and foster families in your own community, check out this post by Kelly, this post by Steph, and this post by Alisha.
If you want to become a foster parent yourself, contact your local foster care agency or contacting your local CPS office for how to begin your trainings.

Does anyone have any advice for a bio mom to get along with foster parents? How to settle parenting differances, establish a working relationship, especially when children are intended to be returned?
I worked with a bio mom to get her child back. And it all starts with respect. She was devastated her child was taken, and she took the time to write me personal letter thanking me for caring, and loving her child. She sent some of his special belongings from home. I made sure to tell the CASA and caseworkers what a great mom she was and the child needed to be returned. Bios have to remember WE didn’t remove your child. We are just there to love them till things are worked out.
Carrie, this is a difficult position for you, I understand. We were guardians to our nephew, had him arrested off the streets at 14, he hoped to go home but that was never going to be a reality. My wife and I saw the gaps for training or shall I say short term assistance. We are releasing our book called Guardian Shift June of 2016. In it we cover issues like getting along with the bio-parents, the honeymoon phase, integration issues and many other topics. Shifts like this are so hard on everyone. In Guardian Shift we have a section on reconciliation, not an easy subject. Stop by our website http://www.scottamaral.com Praying for you! Scott & Jeannie Amaral
This is spectacular! I’ve shared your video on my foster-support page and I hope people see it and make a difference!
